What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy treatment designed to help clients heal from traumatic experiences faster than traditional talk therapy. In EMDR, bilateral stimulation is used to activate both hemispheres of the brain while clients revisit traumatic memories from the past. This is traditionally done through rapid eye movements to the left and right, but can also be done through gentle tapping on the chest or knees. Pairing bilateral stimulation with revisiting traumatic memories in session has been shown to reduce the amount of psychological distress (i.e. negative emotions and thoughts) associated with past traumatic experiences. EMDR is also gaining popularity for use with other mental health issues including anxiety, OCD, and depression.

Session length

Although I am happy to provide EMDR within the standard 50-minute session timeframe, I have found great benefit in increasing the session length for EMDR clients to 75 minutes. This helps us get even deeper into "reprocessing" during sessions and allows more time at the end of the session to discuss insights that come up during the reprocessing portion of treatment (reprocessing = when we use bilateral stimulation). I recommend starting with a free consultation and we can discuss the best option for you!

Rates and Forms of Payment

Rates for EMDR are the same as for individual therapy. 75-minute sessions are billed on a prorated basis. I do not accept health insurance but can provide a superbill. I accept credit card, cash, or check payments.

Offering in-person and virtual sessions

I offer in-person sessions at my office in LA's Larchmont Village. I also offer video sessions if that is your preferred method of meeting/if you don't live nearby. EMDR has been shown to be effective virtually so don't worry if in-person sessions aren't an option for you.

COVID-19 precautions for in-person sessions

Although I cannot guarantee any protection from contracting COVID-19 due to exposure during an in-person session, my office has two windows that I will happily keep open during our sessions. I am also happy to wear a mask during sessions. I want you to feel as safe and supported as possible! Feel free to reach out with any other questions about this and we can chat.
